Description:
This essentially rectangular shaped (50′ x 78′) building is constructed of uncut native stone laid in a cobweb pattern with beaded mortar. The roof is flat with parapets capped with concrete. The front entryway is framed with stone pilasters and lintel capped by a stepped cornice evocative of Mission style. The metal sash windows are singly placed with concrete sills. A single garage entry on the front is framed with pilasters. Unfortunately an addition to the side of the structure has destroyed its integrity and disqualifies it for inclusion to the National Register.
This structure is significant for its encompassing design. It houses city offices, a storage garage, an ambulance garage, fire equipment, the police department and the city and county jail. Architecturally it is unique for its faint Mission style and the quality of its workmanship. Its importance to the community is suggested by its continued use by the city fathers. Construction of the City Hall generated 76,000 manhours of labor which gave many persons an opportunity to regain their self respect and a measure of economic security.

“Municipal City Hall, Stilwell. It’s no longer standing. I’m not sure when it was torn down, but it’s been a long time. The town has just constructed a new city hall, but they moved from the original city hall to a building that was donated to the town by Dr. C. W. Mehagan and used that for probably 25 years or so.”
