Description:

This amphitheater is significant because it was built by the NYA in 1936. Built on the hilltop north of the Administration Building it was modeled after the Colosseum in Rome and had 14 rows of seats that held over 2,000 people. Largely used for plays, assemblies and graduation ceremonies, it was partially demolished in the summer of 1967 and replaced by a parking lot in 1970. According to Jerry Nye and Joel Kendall, theatre and music students from the thirties and forties had fond memories of performing in that open-air arena.
